- I write about everything to do with renting and the buildings tenants live in. Thirty percent of the UK population live in rented accomodation. There are roughly one million landlords in the UK. We didn't all make it onto to the property ladder. We don't all have a dream home. We move from rented flat to rented flat, dealing with lazy landlords, and neighbours, good and bad. We endure the tribulations of newbuild housing complexes, and the insecurity of never knowing how long you can stay in one place, or indeed, if you want to. I used to live in Dovecot Towers (so called because it's built stacked up like a dovecot. 'Nice Heights', was great, but I've moved again. I am currently on a sort of research tour. I hope you enjoy this blog, and thank you for reading. Although please be aware - anything using words to the effect '...why not move?' will not be published, as they are missing the point somewhat. A more accurate cartoon would depict the millions of poor people who bought homes they couldn't afford, along with the government policies for encouraging just that to happen.
The poor weren't buying homes they couldn't afford: the villains were the buy to let bubble buyers. Who ended up evicting the poor, or overcharging them for rent.

In your latest post you attack the removal of housing benefit. But surely housing benefit is just redirecting tax payers money into the buy-to-leters bank accounts?
And in any case, weren't the buy-to-leters only taking advantage of a lack of regulation or a business opportunity all of which I vaguely seem to recall was facilitated by 'New Labour' - as it was then?
But to letters only taking advantage...yes they were: of the system but mostly their tenants by ramping rents. They in turn were prey to those BTL get right quick schemes. I know who I feel more empathy with.
